Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS)
Alliance for Sustainable Aquaculture (ASA) is a collaborative group of researchers, business owners, non-profit organizations and interested members of the public working to further Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) in the United States through research, education, legislative work and advocacy. We believe that RAS, closed-looped and biosecure aquaculture operations, are the best option to meet our countrys need for a clean, green, sustainable, healthy seafood source to supplement our wild fisheries.

This new organization is an excellent example of astroturf politics where activist organization who know nothing about the subject create an organization Alliance for Sustainable Aquaculture (ASA) whose primary purpose is to support fundraising and legal actions against legitimate sustainable aquaculture. We import 90% of our seafood and most of that is aquaculture production from other countries while they block building a 20 billion/yr industry in the US with 100's of thousands of good-paying jobs.
If you try finding out who these people are that created this organization, Google doesn't list a web site for the organization, just press releases like this one. The woman in the video is a Food and Water Watch staffer and propagandist. I haven't seen even one person associated with either ASA or FWW who knows anything about recycled aquaculture beyond the "buzz word" level.
Note that they don't mention the concept of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) that is the basis for determining the sustainability of any project. That is because of the energy cost of recycled aquaculture results in much higher Greenhouse warming per Kg of fish produced than the offshore net pens they are opposing.
The science is against them and doesn't support any of their claims beyond feel-good propaganda, but like nut cases that don't believe in vaccination or think the earth is 4,000 years old they actually "believe" their own nonsense.
PS: I started in recycle aquaculture and invented a lot of the technology going back to the 1970's and made a living in RAS since then. I know activist BS when I see it. They are skilled at propaganda, but not aquaculture.
